Karur: A 17-year-old Class 12 girl student of a private school committed suicide by hanging in her house at Vengamedu in Karur district, alleging sexual harassment on Friday night.
Police said the girl was found hanging after returning from school. She was alone in the house. Their neighbour, an aged woman found her dead and immediately alerted the mother, who is running a shop nearby.
Based on the complaint, police removed the body to Karur government medical college hospital for post-mortem.
Police recovered a suicide note in the house in which the girl stated that she should be the last person to die of sexual harassment. I am scared to reveal the identity of the person who made me take this decision. I wanted to live. No girl should die like me, henceforth, the girl said.
Investigations revealed that the girl was under serious depression after losing her father two years ago and simultaneously her grandmother and cousin brother.
The Vengamedu police have registered a case and are investigating to find out whether she was harassed by her teachers or others in her neighbourhood.
