Four COVID-19 related deaths, 59 new cases in Meghalaya

Of the 11,05, 013 persons tested for COVID-19 across the State till Sunday, 10,22,590 persons were tested negative for the virus, official data reflected.

Shillong: Four COVID-19 related deaths that of un-vaccinated persons increased the fatality count to 1,421 and 59 new cases of infection added up to 1,152 active cases, even as 126 more persons recovered from the viral disease, surging the number of recovered cases to 79,850 on Sunday in Meghalaya, which has registered 82,423 confirmed cases so far, health officials said.

Of the new COVID-19 positive cases detected on Sunday, the maximum number of 34 was reported from the East Khasi Hills, which, including state capital Shillong is the most pandemic-hit district with 621 active cases and 975 deaths, health officials said.

Three health workers have also contracted the viral infection in West Khasi Hills district and one case each was detected in North East Space Application Centre (NESAC) and North East Police Academy (NEPA) in Ri-Bhoi district, they said.

No fresh cases were detected in East Garo Hills district, East Jaiñtia Hills district, South Garo Hills district, South West Khasi Hills district, South West Garo Hills district, South Garo Hills district and West Garo Hills district.

As per the latest official count, the West Khasi Hills district had 303 active cases, 115 active cases in West Jaintia Hills district, 48 active cases in Ri-Bhoi district, 19 active cases each in South West Khasi Hills district and West Garo Hills district, 13 active cases in East Garo Hills district, eight active cases in East Jaiñtia Hills district, two active cases each in South West Garo Hills district, North Garo Hills district and South Garo Hills district.

As of date, 32,064 health care workers have received the first dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 and 27,467 have been administered with the second dose, 96,961 front-line workers have got the first jab and 78,276 have taken the second shot, 9, 52,065 persons from among the general public have been inoculated with the first dose and 4,16,403 have been fully vaccinated with the second dose.
