Chandigarh: Navjot Singh Sidhu, who had tendered his resignation as the Punjab Congress chief recently, on Saturday said he would stand by Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi whether he has a post of not.

In a cryptic statement made on Twitter, Sidhu said, “Will uphold principles of Gandhi Ji and Shastri Ji… Post or No Post will stand by Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi”.

“Let all negative forces try to defeat me, but with every ounce of positive energy will make Punjab win, Punjabiyat (Universal Brotherhood) win and every Punjabi win!!” he said.

Sidhu had tendered his resignation from the post of Punjab Congress chief on September 28, but it has not been accepted by the Congress high command yet.

He did not make it clear if he was keeping the post. The party is also yet to make an official announcement about this.

Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi had held a meeting with Sidhu in Chandigarh on Thursday evening, after which some leaders who attended the meeting said the differences were resolved.

However, the question mark over his continuation as the party chief in the state remains.

Sidhu’s resignation came days after Captain Amarinder Singh resigned as the state chief minister, saying that he was feeling humiliated by the Congress.

The Congress leadership has also been attacked by the G-23 leaders, with senior leader Kapil Sibal saying they did not know who was taking decisions in the party which had no elected president.

Sonia Gandhi was made the interim president of Congress after Rahul Gandhi resigned from the post.
