‘Will of people residing in disputed areas to play decisive role in solving Assam-Meghalaya boundary issues’: Assam CM

Sarma said that among the three states in North East Assam that have border disputes, boundary disputes with Meghalaya could be solved faster since it doesn’t have any historical perspective.

Guwahati, Aug 13 (UNI) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday said that will of the people residing in the disputed areas along the Assam-Meghalaya border to play a decisive role in resolving the vexed inter-state boundary dispute between the two states.

“It is the will of the people who are residing in disputed areas with which state they want to stay will majorly decide the boundary problem,” Sarma said in the ongoing Assam Assembly Session.

Sarma said that among the three states in North East Assam that have border disputes, boundary disputes with Meghalaya could be solved faster since it doesn’t have any historical perspective.

He informed that both the states have agreed to resolve boundary disputes in six spots out of them by September 12.

Sarma added that the other six spots where border disputes are of critical nature will be taken up after the easier ones are solved which will make goodwill ground between both the states to resolve the complicated ones.

He also informed the house that both Assam and Meghalaya have undertaken drone surveys in border areas.
