Itanagar: Various political parties in Arunachal Pradesh, including Opposition Congress, Arunachal Indigenous Tribes Forum (AITF), a conglomeration of several community-based organisations of the state and All Arunachal Pradesh Student’s Union (AAPSU) on Thursday resolved to work as a team for attaining a permanent solution to the vexed interstate boundary issue between Arunachal and Assam.

The decision was taken during a consultative meeting convened by the High Power Ministerial Committee (HPMC) for Arunachal-Assam interstate boundary at the Dorjee Khandu State Convention Centre here on Thursday.

Chairing the meeting, state Home Minister Bamang Felix, who is also the chairman of the HPMC, informed that the consultative meeting has been convened to create a road map that will guide the process of resolving the vexed interstate boundary issue with Assam.

Emphasising the importance of Thursday’s meeting, Felix said that it will be instrumental in paving a way for an amicable and permanent solution to the interstate boundary issue, and appealed to the house present to rise above party lines and come together as ‘Team Arunachal’.

He further appealed to all to ensure that peace is maintained throughout the process of resolving the boundary dispute.

The Home Minister also informed that the HPMC will also convene a meeting after August 15 with the District Level Committees and will recommend the way forward to the government.

Later, the house present accepted the HPMC proposal of taking the Supreme Court-appointed Local Committee’s recommendations as the baseline for working out an amicable and permanent solution to the Arunachal-Assam boundary issue.

Earlier, taking part in the discussion, representatives of the political parties, AITF and AAPSU assured to extend all possible support to the HPMC so that the boundary dispute with Assam is resolved once and for all.

The meeting was attended by all members of the HPMC, Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Nabam Tuki, BJP state president Biyuram Wahge, NPP vice-president Thangham Wangham, JD (U) general secretary P Dolo, JD (S) president Rokom Apang, People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) president KaffaBengia, AITF president Bengia Tolum, and AAPSU president Hawa Bagang, among others.

“We want only a solution (Arunachal-Assam boundary issue). We want a peaceful and lasting solution in between Arunachal and Assam on the boundary issue,” Felix told reporters later.

It may be mentioned here that Chief Minister Pema Khandu had last month said that Arunachal and Assam have in-principle agreed to sort out the decades old inter-state boundary out of the court.
