400 migrant rail passengers skip mandatory COVID 19 testing in Assam

According to local media report, the incident took place on Sunday at Jagiroad railway station, around 60 km from Guwahati.

Guwahati: More than 400 train passengers rushed out of a railway station in Assam on Sunday and skipped the Covid-19 test video of which has gone viral in social media at a time when the state is facing a surge in infection.

According to the local media report, the incident took place on Sunday at Jagiroad railway station, around 60 km from Guwahati.

The report said the train passengers, who were mostly migrant workers, including women and children, had travelled by Kanyakumari-Dibrugarh Vivek Express, which was coming from Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu.

The train travelled through different states to reach Assam in five days.

Assam government has made Covid19 test for train passengers compulsory on their arrival, a video doing the round on social media shows the passengers rushed en-masse out of the railway station while the police and railway officials looked on.

The incident has taken place at a time when Assam reported a total of 3,563 new Covid19 cases and 72 more deaths in the last 24 hours.

Assam’s overall positivity percentage was 5.68%.
