75-week long ‘Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav’ begins at NIT Manipur

Imphal: To mark the attainment of 75 years of Indian Independence, the National Institute of Technology, Manipur has begun a 75-week long ‘Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav’ at its campus here on Friday.

As part of the Amrut Mahotsav, a series of events and activities will be organized during this period to fully understand the sacrifices made by freedom fighters leading to the attainment of 75 years of India’s Independence on August 15, 1947, said an official of the institute.

“The freedom of this great country comes with a great price made by our forefathers. It’s now the responsibility of every citizen of this country to build a nation for which our great leaders would be proud,” stated Prof Goutam Sutradhar, Director NIT Manipur while addressing the gathering of students and staff.

To mark the starting of the Mahotsav, a seminar on the various freedom movements was held, which was followed by a tree plantation programme inside the campus. Around 60 saplings of Cinnamomum camphora, Syzygium cumini, Callistemon species supplied by the Department of Forest, Government of Manipur, Sawombung, Imphal East, were planted.
