Itanagar: In a ‘major’ development in the insurgency affected TCL (Tirap-Changlang-Longding) region of Arunachal Pradesh, six hardcore insurgents of Naga outfits – three each from the Isak-Muivah faction of National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-IM) and Eastern Naga National Government (ENNG) on Wednesday surrendered before the troops of Assam Rifles and Arunachal Pradesh Police.
The surrenderees also deposited two pistols along with ammunition, the AR sources said.
As per the surrendered cadres, sources said, the atrocities by underground outfits towards the local population motivated them to lay down arms and join mainstream to show their support against the inhuman activities of UG groups.
“They also mentioned that the wrong practice of NSCN factions to use locals as human shield made them realize the inhuman motive of these underground outfits towards locals of Arunachal Pradesh and motivated them to stand united in removing insurgency from TCL”.
Earlier also, more than 60 important insurgent leaders and cadres from the TCL region have shunned the insurgent groups and joined the mainstream, giving a huge blow to the underground outfits.
“This trend is reflective of the growing disgruntlement and lack of ideology amongst the cadres and has ushered normalcy and peace in the region,” it said while adding that the surrender of cadres is likely to motivate other cadres of various groups to join the mainstream in future.
