Imphal: As part of India’s 75th Independence Day celebration, the Manipur State Rural Livelihoods Mission (MSRLM), Department of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, Government of Manipur Wednesday organised a function ‘Dedicating 50,000 SHG women members as Business Correspondent’. The function was held under the initiative of the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India at Hotel Classic Royale, Imphal.
Speaking at the function, Yumnam Robita, State Mission Director, MSRLM urged the participants to give cooperation and support in order to achieve the goal of the mission. She said under the scheme the women are empowered through the SHGs and the function will highlight the active role of the Bank Sakhis.
She appreciated the women entrepreneurs and encouraged them to work harder to excel in their business. Further, she also requested the bank partners to assist those SHGs needing help and assured that the Mission will continue its support in the future.
Speaking on the topic ‘Business Correspondents as Entrepreneurship’, Director, Rural Self Employment Training Institute (RSETI), Lianminthang, Churachandpur said that in a digitalized world and the ongoing financial inclusion effort of the government, Business Correspondents (BCs) have an important role to play as a link between the banks and the rural masses. He said in this process they can also greatly benefit if they imbibe the characteristics of a successful entrepreneur.
He informed that RSETI also trains BCs under the ‘One GP One BC Sakhi’ program with certification by the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance (IIBF) and also train rural poor and unemployed youths in various trades with the objective of generation self-employment and entrepreneurship.
At the function today, 32 SHGs were conferred certificates and electronic devices by the Indian Institute of Banking & Finance. The function was also attended by Shri Helun Khongsai, SMM-FI; Manipur representatives of APB (Airtel Payment Bank); IDFC first bank; CSC-SPV and SHGs members.
