Badaun (UP): A father and son have been arrested in connection with the murder of a village head, his wife, and his mother in Satara village in Badaun district in Uttar Pradesh, police said on Tuesday.
Senior Superintendent of Police Dr O P Singh said Ravindra Dixit and his son Sarthak Dixit were taken into custody on the basis of the complaint lodged by the village head’s brother Rajesh Gupta.
The village head and Samajwadi Party leader Rakesh Gupta (58), his wife Sharda Devi and his mother were shot dead inside their house by unidentified assailants in the village on Sunday night.
The SSP said Rajesh claimed that he saw Ravindra, his son and two others escaping on motorcycles after the incident.
“When quizzed, Ravindra told the police that he had political and personal rivalry with Rakesh since 1979 when his father was killed by the latter,” he said.
He said that both the parties had been contesting Panchayat and local body elections against each other. “The tension between the two sides escalated when Rakesh’s father Ram Krishna Gupta was murdered by Ravindra Dixit in the year 1979,” he said.
