Gangtok: At least 179 fresh cases of Covid were logged in Sikkim on Tuesday, with three of the patients dying, officials said.
The state now has a total of 689 active cases.
The state government has started holding emergency meetings of Covid-related task forces and committees to tackle the situation.
District Collector, Soreng, Bhim Thatal, convened a meeting to form a Covid task force committee in the district.
Preparedness for dealing with Covid was discussed, and the officers were directed to reorganise the village-level Covid management structure soon and follow the earlier procedure of creating containment zones.
The challenges including shortage of manpower,availability of health officers and testing kits were discussed at the meeting
Thatal also directed the officers concerned to submit a status report about the door-to-door vaccination programme.
