Imphal: Manipur joined the rest of the world in observance of World Autism Awareness Day on Tuesday, which is annually held on 2nd April every year. The day provides a platform for communities worldwide on the diverse spectrum of neurodevelopmental differences with society.
The Composite Regional Centre (CRC), a Centre for Skill Development Rehabilitation and Empower of Persons with Disabilities under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India also celebrated in the presence of Naosekpam Khoibi Singh, Director of CRC.
Autism is a developmental disorder that impairs the ability to communicate and interact. This has impacted the nervous system and affected the overall cognitive, emotional, social and physical health of the affected individual.
Khoibi said the number of patients with autism has increased over the years, yet with the development of new technology, and different diagnoses being implemented, the parents too become aware of the problem.
The official said this problem cannot be solved immediately. It may take weeks or years. As a parent, they make sure they get consistent guidance and interaction with the therapists and experts. So that they can practice what they learn from therapy.
