New Delhi: The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting is set to organize the World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES), a global summit for the media and entertainment industry, focusing on the Indian sector. The event will occur in Goa from November 20 to November 24, 2024, alongside the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI).

WAVES aims to bring together leaders from the Indian Media & Entertainment (M&E) industry worldwide to discuss key issues, develop mechanisms, and create frameworks for enhancing opportunities.

The summit will feature roundtable discussions among countries, cross-cultural content promotion, and initiatives to boost the Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, and Comics (AVGC) industry.

It will also promote Indian intellectual properties (IPs), enhance business opportunities for global and Indian players, showcase Indian talent, and position the M&E sector as a means to generate sustainable employment within a thriving media ecosystem.

The M&E industry is one of the fastest-growing sectors of India’s economy, boasting the second-largest online market globally. Factors such as rising incomes, widespread availability of fast internet at low data rates, extensive smartphone penetration, increasing consumer demand, and growing advertising revenues have propelled the sector towards immense value. This growth significantly boosts India’s economy.

Hosting WAVES in India will elevate the country’s status as a global player in the media and entertainment realm, enhancing its global image and soft power. Establishing the summit as an annual marquee event will solidify India’s position in the sector.
