Imphal: World Anthropology Post Congress 2023, International seminar on “Anthropology in Practice: Health, Culture and Security” was held on Thursday at Manipur University Auditorium on World Anthropology Day.
Speaking at the function as the Chief Guest, Health and Family Welfare Minister, Dr. Sapam Ranjan Singh said that Health is not merely a concept but a reality of life. According to Anthropology, culture means what we do, what we have and what we perceive in society.
Culture is the total ways of life including all the object and elements, rules and regulations, learned, shared and accepted by members of the society.
The Minister further said that for a peaceful and prosperous society or nation, the protection of life and property is of utmost importance. He said that security has different dimensions but food security and law and order are paramount for human survival and welfare.
The Minister also said that the development of the nation lies in the hands of citizens. The human resources of the citizens, their health status, their way of life, peace and tranquillity define a nation. He also said that for the past 10 months, the state is facing tremendous issues such as homelessness, food security, law and order, violence, death and dying, mental health and chains of a concomitant problem and such a seminar will help in designing, devising and intervening the hot current issues.
The programme was attended by Prof. N. Rajmuhon Singh, Vice-Chancellor DM University; Prof. K. Saratchandra, President Anthropological Society of Manipur; Prof. Vijoy S. Sahay and Prof. S. Jibonkumar Singh as presidium member of the seminar.
It may be mentioned that World Anthropology Day is celebrated on 3rd Thursday of February every year. It is celebrated to educate people about the science of human behaviour, biology and how human societies function.
