Banda (UP): In a grim reminder of the Delhi case, a woman died after being hit and dragged by a truck in Mawai Kotwali Nagar area here in Banda district here in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday, police sources said.

Police sources said that the incident occurred around 8 pm when Pushpa Devi (36), an employee of Agriculture and Technical University, riding a two-wheeler was hit by the truck. “After hitting the two-wheeler the truck dragged it for around one and a half kilometers,” they said.

Police sources said that the truck later caught fire in which the victim’s body was badly charred. Initially the truck driver managed to escape from the spot. “The victim is said to be a resident of Lucknow and got a job in the university following the death of her husband,” they said.

Additional Superintendent of Police Laxmi Niwas Mishra said that the truck driver, Akhilesh Yadav has been arrested.
