Imphal: The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has raised concerns over a potential “secret plan” to disintegrate Manipur and has called on the Narendra Modi-led BJP government to clarify the mention of “Chin State of Manipur” in the draft of the North East Vision Plan 2024.

MPCC President Keisham Meghachandra questioned the intent behind the term, asking whether it was part of an effort by Modi and the BJP-led Biren Singh government to restore peace and normalcy in the violence-stricken state.

Speaking to the media on Monday, he noted that Manipur has already been suffering from unrest for the past 14 months, and such terminology could further escalate tensions. Meghachandra urged the Prime Minister and the Union DoNER Minister to immediately address the issue.

The Congress leader emphasized that despite Rahul Gandhi visiting Manipur three times since the violence began on May 3 of last year, the Prime Minister has yet to visit. Meghachandra called on Modi to at least issue an official statement assuring that no “Chin State” would be created from Manipur’s territory and that the state’s integrity would remain intact.

Meghachandra also criticized the Prime Minister’s continued silence on the matter and questioned whether the “double-engine” government at both the Centre and State levels was conspiring to undermine Manipur’s territorial integrity by 2047. The Wangkhem legislator further demanded the resignation of the DoNER Minister over the draft document.

Meghachandra also challenged Chief Minister N. Biren Singh’s claims of a “factual error,” accusing the Modi government of secretly and deliberately planning the creation of a Chin State in the draft Vision India 2047 document at the expense of Manipur’s historic territorial boundaries.

It may be noted that the Draft NEC Vision 2047 has been withdrawn following complaints from Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh about inaccuracies concerning the tribal communities of the North East.

Chief Minister Singh requested corrections from Union Minister JM Scindia and other officials regarding a mistake in ‘Chapter 3: Art, Culture and Natural Heritage,’ which incorrectly described the Kukis (Chin) as originating from the Chin State of Manipur.
