Kolkata: Former Gorkha Territorial Administration (GTA) chairman and Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) leader Binay Tamang, who joined the Trinamool Congress on Friday, said he wanted to see West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as the Prime Ministerial candidate in 2024.
Speaking to media here, Tamang said, ”Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is a dynamic and visionary leader. We want to see her as the Prime Ministerial candidate in 2024.”
“I resigned from my post and from GJM on July 15. I was in touch with the AITC leaders ever since. AITC National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee is also a skilled leader of the party, ” he added.
“We belonged to a regional party, but now that we have joined a national party, we would like to work for the people of North Bengal through AITC, ” he stated.
“The opposition party in the hills is the BJP and its alliance. They are leveraging the issues of hills and the emotions of the people to win elections. BJP has always tried to ruin the peace and tranquillity of the hills and made fake promises. They have also tried to divide Bengal but this will not happen, we are united. We are joining AITC to work for the development of the hills, ” Tamang averred.
“If GJM founder Bimal Gurung, former GJM leader Anit Thapa and their groups want to join AITC, they are most welcome, ” he said.
