Imphal: Hon’ble Vice President of India Chandrapuram Ponnusamy Radhakrishnan arrived today at Imphal as part of his four-day North East States tour. A warm welcome was accorded by the Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Manipur Y. Khemchand Singh, Deputy Chief Minister, Losii Dikho, Chief Secretary Rajeev Singh Thakur, DGP Manipur, Mukesh Singh and other officials of the State Government. The Vice President was also given Guard of Honour immediately upon his arrival at the airport.
Immediately after his arrival, the Hon’ble Vice-President of India, C. P. Radhakrishnan, visited the INA Martyrs’ Memorial Complex, Moirang, Bishnupur district. There, he was warmly received by the Hon’ble Governor of Manipur, along with the Home Minister, Govindas Konthoujam; Art and Culture Minister, Khuraijam Loken Singh; MLA of Moirang Assembly Constituency, MLA Thongam Shanti Singh; and senior officers of the State Government. He was presented with a traditional lengyaan and bouquet by the Hon’ble Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla.
During his visit, the Vice-President visited the historic Moirang Kangla within the complex and thereafter proceeded to the statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, where he laid a wreath and paid homage to the great leader. He subsequently visited the INA Museum, where he was presented with gifts and souvenirs. Before leaving Moirang, the Hon’ble Vice-President posed for a group photo with the dignitaries and senior officers present at the complex.
Thereafter, Vice President, C.P. Radhakrisnan, attended a function at the Vikram Batra Auditorium at Sainik School, Imphal, Pangei, Imphal East District. Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla; Chief Minister, Y. Khemchand Singh; Deepti Mohil Chawla, IDAS, Additional Secretary, DoD, Ministry of Defence, Brig JBS Rathi, Offg GOC, 57 Mtn Div & Chairman LBA, Sainik School Imphal; Brig Amit Chatterjee, Inspecting Officer SSS, Ministry of Defence and Col. A. Rajiv, Principal, Sainik School, Imphal were the dignitaries of the function.
Hon’ble Vice President of India, C.P. Radhakrisnan, addressing the gathering, said that his decision to visit Sainik School, Imphal was taken after a high-level review meeting of Sainik Schools conducted by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence on August 2026. Applauding the immense contribution and achievements of Sainik School Imphal, he said that with its completion of 55 years, the school should take the opportunity to reflect on its journey. The true legacy of the institute is not only confined in the structural buildings of the school campus but on the discipline and dedication of the cadets. The cadets should be enabled to shine with values in whatever career they choose in the future. He further said that the quality of discipline, leadership and courage should be instilled in the mind of the cadets to apply in any situation that arises. He also acknowledged the valuable contribution of the institute in the Indian Armed Forces in various capacities by its alumni, he added.
Vice President C.P. Radhakrisnan further added that cadets should be able to sacrifice themselves in the larger interest of the country/motherland irrespective of caste, creed and religion. They should be well aware of the changes in technological development taking place globally. Appreciating the contributions of all the people in carrying the name of the institute, the Vice President urged the students of the institute to contribute in protecting the integrity of the Nation and wish the institute a glorious path in future.
Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, speaking at the function, said that the State will look forward to more visits of Hon’ble Vice President, as the visit at Moirang and Sainik School, Imphal, has an important significance both for the school and the state as a whole. He said that his first visit to the State will give an opportunity to the young cadets to witness national leadership and draw an inspiration from his distinguished public life and service to the Nation.
Governor applauded the proud legacy of the institute and its immense contribution not only to the armed forces but also to the Nation in diversity. The alumni in their professional lives have brought distinction to the institution, the state and the country. Manipur has a long tradition of service in the armed forces. The courage, resilience and sense of duty associated with the people of the state have known across the regions and Sainik School Imphal plays an important part in this tradition. The institute has an important role in nurturing the next generation of young Indians. The vision of Viksit Bharat not only require young people who possessed knowledge and skills but also integrity, compassion, discipline and a deep sense of responsibility towards the Nation. Governor urged the cadets to take the opportunity of studying in an institute that teaches such kind of values and wish the institute success in its future endeavours.
Chief Minister Y. Khemchand, speaking on the occasion, expressed that the visit of the Hon’ble Vice President is a matter of pride for the school as well as the State. Commending the well-maintained discipline of the cadets and various achievements of the school, he said the school has provided a platform for the youth. He added that Ministry of DoNER has given approval for the development of Sainik School, Imphal. With the support and guidance of the Government, Sainik school is heading towards progress, he added.
A cultural programme was showcased by the cadets of the institute followed by an interaction session as part of the programme. The programme was attended by senior officials, staffs and cadets of Sainik School, Imphal.
After this programme, the Vice President headed back to the Imphal International Airport today later afternoon. H was seen off at the airport by Hon’ble Governor, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Rajya Sabha MP A Sharda Devi, Chief Secretary Rajeev Singh Thakur and other top civil and police officials.
