Churachandpur: The enthusiastic villagers of Bungmual, Churachandpur organized a tree plantation drive by planting saplings along National Highway – 102 as a part of ‘Van Mahotsav’ observation Wednesday.
The event was organized by Bungmual Village Authority with assistance from the District Administration and Forest department.
The villagers vowed to safeguard the planted Thuja Compacta saplings with the promise to take care till it matures. About 150 tree saplings are planted today.
Speaking on the occasion, Khaikhopau Ngaihte, Addl. DC/Churachandpur said that the trees are planted to beautify the village along National Highway – 102. He exhorted the people of Bungmual village to take proper care of the saplings planted today as the locals are now aware of the dual purpose of the tree plantation – to beautify the village and prevents the dangers of deforestation.
Ms. Esther Laltankim Serto, IFS, DFO/Churachandpur Division, Village Authority members, Youth club members, and officials from the Forest department attended the event.
