Tengnoupal:  Van Mahotsav 2026, the annual Festival of Forests, commenced today with plantation drives at Maojang and Heingoukhong villages under the Tengnoupal Forest Division.

The programme was conducted under the aegis of Mahamuda Begum, Deputy Conservator of Forests, Tengnoupal Forest Division, with active participation from village authorities, students, women’s groups, local residents, and Forest Department officials.

The plantation drive aimed to promote environmental conservation, increase green cover, and encourage community participation in protecting and restoring forest ecosystems. Participants planted indigenous tree species and pledged to nurture the saplings for a greener future.

As part of the Van Mahotsav celebrations, the Forest Department also distributed free tree saplings to local residents across the Moreh, Tengnoupal, and Machi Ranges, encouraging households and communities to actively contribute to afforestation efforts.

The celebration marks the beginning of a series of plantation and awareness programmes to be organized throughout the Tengnoupal Forest Division during Van Mahotsav 2026.
