Washington: The US Secret Service has cordoned off the perimeter of the Russian Embassy in Washington, a law enforcement officer said.
“The embassy is shut down,” the officer said on Tuesday evening.
Another local law enforcement officer said that there is “an issue” in the Russia Embassy but could not further comment on the matter.
The situation around the Russian Embassy remains calm despite the large presence of emergency vehicles blocking the area, including at least six fire department trucks and several police cars.
A law enforcement officer threatened to arrest anyone who entered the perimeter that is blocked off to the public, a Sputnik correspondent reported.
Local residents near the Russian Embassy are also unaware about what is happening in the area. Some are unable to get to their homes at the moment, according to the Sputnik correspondent.
