Farrukhabad (UP):A wanted criminal was killed in an encounter with the police in which two cops were also injured in Kaimganj area of Farrukhabad district in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, a senior officer said here.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Ashok Kumar Meena said that acting on a tip off Kaimganj police, the Special Operations Group (SOG) and Surveillance team launched a vehicle checking campaign in Kotwali area. “During checking the team spotted a criminal Devendra alias Pinku and when signaled to stop he opened fire in which two cops Rajesh Kumar and Sachin Chauhan were injured,” he said.
Meena said that in retaliatory firing Meena was also injured and was taken to community health center Kaimganj from where he was referred to Dr Ram Manohar Lohia hospital after first aid. “Devendra succumbed to injuries mid-way and was declared dead at Lohia hospital. The cops are also admitted in the hospital where their condition is stated to be out of danger,” he said.
He said that Devendra was the prime accused in the murder of retired Sub Divisional Magistrate Ram Autar Gautam, a resident of Patiyali in Etah district, who was killed in the year 2016. “Devendra, who carried a cash reward of Rs 25,000 on his arrest, had 19 cases lodged against him. An illicit 32 pistol, cartridges and a motorcycle was recovered from his possession,” he said.
