UP: Cattle smuggler arrested in police encounter

Etawah (UP): A cattle smuggler was arrested after an encounter with the police in the Kotwali area of Etawah district in Uttar Pradesh, a senior police officer said on Friday.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sanjay Kumar said that police received a tip-off that Zafar alias Zafruddin, who was involved in the supply of prohibited meat, was going to Bhind in Madhya Pradesh on a motorcycle.

He said that acting on the tip-off, the police team led by Deputy SP Amit Kumar Singh and Inspector Vikram Singh Chauhan laid a trap near Sunwara bypass Hanuman Tila at around 2 a.m. on Thursday night. “On being challenged, Zafar opened fire on the police team and sustained a bullet injury in the retaliatory firing,” he said.

The SSP said that six cases, including those of attempted murder, looting, and cattle smuggling, were lodged against Zafar in different police stations in Etawah district.
