Under construction steel bridge collapses in Arunachal

The 110m span bridge is part of the project for 2-laning of Nechipu to Hoj section of NH-13 under execution directly by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH).

Itanagar: An under-construction steel (composite) bridge over river Shu near Kheel village under Toru circle of Arunachal Pradesh’s Papum Pare district has collapsed on Saturday due to “distress in bearings”. However, there was no report of any casualty in the incident, official sources said here.

The 110m span bridge is part of the project for 2-laning of Nechipu to Hoj section of NH-13 under execution directly by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH).

As directed by the State government, a team of officials including the Chief Engineer (Highway), MoRTH officials, independent engineer (M/s Voyant Solution Pvt Ltd) and concessionaire M/s Sushee IVRCL Arunachal Highways Pvt Ltd inspected the bridge site today to take stock of the situation.

An official said, “Distress of the bridge has been caused due to failure of bearings as informed by the concessionaire. The bridge is located on a diversion and therefore, traffic was not opened over this bridge. As such, there was neither any disruption of traffic nor injury to anybody.”
The concessionaire has assured to restore the damages and complete the bridge within two months’ time, he informed.
