Agartala: Two dissident Tripura BJP legislators – former Health Minister Sudip Roybarman and Ashis Kumar Saha – have been meeting their followers by sending a message “save the state from disaster”, in an indication of their departure from the party.
Roybarman on Sunday reiterated that he and his team would not fight the next election with a BJP ticket and alleged that during the four-year rule of Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb the state has turned into a “den of corruption”, “political hatred” and land of “autocratic polarisation”.
“We have extensively toured North Tripura, South Tripura and West Tripura so far and interacted with the local leaders of different parties including BJP. The people have expressed serious resentment over the functioning of this government, violence and non-fulfillment of the poll promises and our present status in BJP,” Roybarman told the media.
He stated that the “inappropriate” activities of the state government and growing factional feud among BJP leaders and legislators have been brought to the notice of the central BJP leadership several times in thelast two years. “Every time they assured steps will be taken to resolve the issues but practically did nothing. the situation has only worsened today”.
“The Chief Minister and a few of his team members have been spending most of their time to spoil others. The police and the administration were used to pursue their vendetta and hatch conspiracy against whoever is criticising the ills of the government or opposing the present dispensation. This has become a routine in Tripura at the behest of a section of central BJP leaders, which is intolerable now,” Roybarman alleged.
“The people voted against the CPI-M’smisrule in 2018 when they saw our face and the united opposition against leftists. With 43 percent of the vote, the BJP secured 36 seats and we formed the government with Biplab Kumar Deb as Chief Minister hoping to restore governance and establish a pro-people government but, today I confess that no good is being done and anti-incumbency is at the peak.”
‘The criminals, the corrupt and third-grade people of CPI-M have taken over the government. The blue-eyed officers of (former Chief Minister) Manik Sarkar in civil and police administration have been posted in all important positions and Biplab Kumar Deb government has been totally hijacked by a group of officers,” Roybarman alleged, adding, “They are looting the state in connivance with some politicians and making the commoners’ life terrible.”
“We have taken stock of the situation and very soon we shall take a decision about our future in politics. Not only the people of Tripura, even we the MLAs and senior politicians were cheated by BJP in 2018 and as a result, the future of our children has become uncertain. We cannot stay with this party and such leaders anymore. Let them fight for securing their future, we shall take care of the future of Tripura,” Roybarman added.
