Imphal: In a gruesome incident, two men were reportedly killed ‘execution style’ by suspected Kuki militants and then dumped their bodies in a pit, a few kilometres away from Sekmai police station in Manipur on Wednesday.

The incident took place somewhere near Leikinthabai village, 17 km to the north of the state capital, on Wednesday, sources said.

Reports said that Irengbam Chingkheinganba, 26, son of Irengbam Dhana and  Sagolshem Nganleiba, 33, son of Sagolshem Ibochou from Sekmaijin Khunou under Kakching district were captured by the suspected Kuki militants at Leikhinthabi and shot them in close-range by blind-folding them and dumped their bodies in a pit.

Family sources said both the two persons went to Sekmai on Tuesday, 4th July, for their personal business engagement.

They were in touch with their family members up to 2 pm on Tuesday. However, there was no contact with them after that.

Later, they came to know about their torture and fatal killing after one ‘Lewis Hemam’ uploaded a distressing video on his social media platform, Facebook, around 9 pm on Wednesday.

Chingkheinganba was unmarried but Nganleiba is survived by his wife, and two sons aged four and 7 months old. Unfortunately, their bodies have not yet been found.

While contacted, a police officer at Hiyanglam police station confirmed a missing report being filed on the two men by their family members on Wednesday, 5th July.  They have seen the reported killing on social media, however, they were not able to verify it as they could not find their bodies yet, the officer disclosed.

The incident might happen somewhere in Kangpokpi district, he observed.

Meanwhile, an elderly woman was allegedly shot dead by miscreants at Mayai Koibi, Imphal on Thursday.

The deceased, identified as Donngaihching, was killed by gunmen near Shishu Nista Niketan School at around 8.45 a.m.

The ITLF, while strongly condemning the killing, said that Donngaihching used to spend her days walking the streets aimlessly and lived in a small shed near a church in Lamphel area built by sympathizers.
