Kohima: Nagaland Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services has admitted the deaths of two people due to suspected rabies in June this year in the state.
According to a statement issued by the Veterinary Surgeon of Dimapur District Veterinary Hospital the two deceased were a mother and her son, residents of the Rilan village under Dimapur district were diagnosed with rabies on June 9 last. While the mother died on June 10, the son died on June 11. Accordingly, the deaths were also reported to the Chief Medical Officer of Dimapur.
It said that after the deaths, a team of Veterinary Hospital visited Rilan village on June 24 and collected report from Village Council Chairman and Secretary. The victims were reportedly bitten by their own dog 20 days before their deaths and the mother also had an earlier history of dog bite, the authority said.
