Shillong: A two-day training program for Local Resource Persons and Cluster Coordinators cum Field Inspectors was successfully conducted on June 24th and 25th, 2024.

The training took place at the District and Local Research Station and Laboratories, East Khasi Hills, and was organized by Clover Organic Pvt. Ltd. in collaboration with the District Horticulture Office, East Khasi Hills.

The training aimed to raise awareness and equip participants with the fundamentals of organic farming to support projects like Mission Organic Value Chain Development Phase IV and Meghalaya State Organic Mission 2.0.

The main goals of these initiatives include developing crop-specific organic production clusters, fostering partnerships between farmers and organic businesses to promote domestic and export trade, and supporting organic value chain development to improve farmers’ earnings.

Experts from the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) East Khasi Hills, and the Cooperation Department led sessions on several key topics, including:

  • Formation and operations of a Cooperative Society
  • Basics of organic farming according to NPOP guidelines
  • Field preparation, management, and soil sample collection
  • On-farm inputs preparation
  • Plantation methodology
  • Post-harvest practices
  • Intercropping

These sessions were in line with the Directorate of Horticulture of Meghalaya’s efforts to transform the state into an organic state by 2030. The program underscored the state’s commitment to sustainable agriculture and enhanced market access for organic produce.
