Imphal: In two separate operations, Moreh and Tengnoupal Battalion of Assam Rifles foiled cross border smuggling of contrabands in Kulyang and Holenphai village, Tengnoupal District, police said on Saturday.
Assam Rifles official said the seized items were worth about Rs 86 lakhs.During border domination patrol, troops of Assam Rifles intercepted four vehicles on Friday carrying illegal areca nuts and timbers from across Indo Myanmar Border.
The recovered timbers and areca nuts were assessed to be worth Rs 50.24 lakhs and Rs 35.32 lakhs respectively.
The recovered items along with vehicles and drivers were handed over to the Forest department and Custom Preventive Force, Tengnoupal district for further legal action.
