Manipur govt restricts gathering due to increasing Covid cases

All District Magistrates and District Superintendents of Police shall be personally responsible and shall strictly enforce the above restrictions by invoking relevant provisions of law, he added.

Imphal: Manipur government has decided to restrict gathering of people for any activity to maximum of 50 persons in case of closed spaces and maximum of 200 persons in case of open spaces.

Chief Secretary Rajesh Kumar said in an order issued on Saturday that in view of the rapid increase in the “Test Positivity Ratio”, absolute number of COVID-19 positive cases per day and detection of Covid-19 variant B.1.1529 (OMICRON) in the State, the restrictions were imposed.

He appealed to all to wear face masks in public places, gatherings and crowded areas. Violators will be penalised promptly under relevant rules.

Manipur on Saturday recorded 158 new Covid 19 cases. The positivity rate was 7.1 percent. Two persons died increasing the toll to 2014.
