Tripura to set up Anganwadi in Bru settlement areas

They pointed out that the Central government has recently sanctioned 234 new Anganwadi centres for Tripura and as many as 20 centres have been allocated for the Bru settlement hamlets, one in each location.

Agartala: Tripura council of ministers in a meeting yesterday cleared the nod for setting up of Anganwadi centres in the 20 displaced Bru settlement locations of North Tripura and Dhalai district, which will not only cater the integrated child development activities, also would create employment opportunities for the setters, the officials of Social Welfare department said.

They pointed out that the Central government has recently sanctioned 234 new Anganwadi centres for Tripura and as many as 20 centres have been allocated for the Bru settlement hamlets, one in each location.

The state government would try to recruit the entire staff for the centres locally, as part of the holistic development of the colonies.

There are 10 Bru resettlement sites in the Dhalai district and 10 in the North Tripura district, which have been targeted to rehabilitate 6959 displaced Bru families.

Construction of houses for 1300 families has been undergoing while houses for 460 families have been completed. Besides, the state government has been working for road connectivity, drinking water facilities, toilets, fair price shops and market-shed, the officials added.
