Agartala: The Tripura government is all set to open a tea auction center following the increase in the state’s tea production, Chief Minister Manik Saha has announced.
Once the auction center comes up, it would provide the state’s tea industry a special place at the national level, Saha said after inaugurating a gas-based tea manufacturing project in Agartala’s northern outskirts on Sunday,
Tripura is the fifth largest tea-producing state in the country and the state government is trying to expand it further by exporting tea to Bangladesh besides opening auction facilities here, Saha said.
The gas-based tea manufacturing project has been set up in the Tripura Tea Development Corporation-run Durgabari tea estate.
The Chief Minister iterated that Tripura has been recognized for producing quality tea and it got a boost under the BJP-IPFT government over the past four and half years.
He said the government is committed to developing the socio-economic condition of the tea workers under the Mukhyamantri Cha Sramik Kalyan (Chief Minister’s Tea Workers’ Welfare) scheme, which was launched recently. The state government has been taking all necessary steps to ensure all the facilities available under various schemes of the central and state governments reach the tea workers, he added.
Saha claimed the tea industries used to face many problems for the non-availability of coal, but now they use of gas would remove that hurdle. Moreover, a small tea garden on 1,200 acres of land under MGNREGA, has created a large number of employment opportunities in the state.Â
