Agartala: The ruling TIPRA Motha of Tripura Tribal Areas District Council (ADC) on Thursday moved Governor Satyadeo Narain Arya seeking his intervention for holding General Election to Village Committees under ADC, which was due almost for a year.
In the memorandum, TIPRA Chairman and royal scion Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma stated that there are 587 ADC Village Committees under ADC and the tenure of the elected bodies had expired on March 7, 2021 and the General Election to ADC Village Committees was not conducted by the State Election Commission which is under the control of state government even after expiry of its tenure taking a plea of Covid19 pandemic.
“The state government prorogued the conduct of ADC Village Committees Election for an indefinite period in spite of the fact that it had already conducted elections for Agartala Municipal Corporation and other Municipal bodies in the state,” Debbarman stated.
TIPRA had requested the Tribal Welfare Department for conducting General Election to Village Committees, but the government is yet to take action in this regard without assigning any reasons. The memorandum claimed that ADC also nominated VCs after the expiry of the tenure but had been made non-functional.
