Agartala: Tripura has registered as many as 102 murder cases in the last ten months while altogether 10 legislators including five of the ruling BJP-IPFT have been attacked by the miscreants in three years, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb informed the state assembly in a query of CPI-M MLA Ratan Bhowmik.
Claiming improvement of law and order in the state, Chief Minister said an average of 10 people were killed every month and so far police arrested 163 persons in connection with the murder cases and the court has issued a warrant against one accused. The investigation has been progressing in all the cases, Deb stated.
According to Chief Minister, seniormost minister of the state and IPFT president N C Debbarma was attacked by the miscreants in his constituency at Takarjala of Sepahijala district. Apart from that BJP MLA Rampada Jamatia, Burbu Mohan Tripura, Birendra Kishore Debbarma and IPFT MLA Dhirendra Debbarma also faced attacks on several occasions but no arrest was made.
The CPI-M MLAs Badal Choudhury, Sudhan Das, Ratan Bhowmik, Bhanu Lal Saha and Narayan Choudhury were also manhandled allegedly on a number of occasions. Tripura police have registered as many as 20 cases and arrested 36 accused persons in connection with the complaints, Deb underlined.
The opposition CPI-M has expressed serious concern over the deteriorating law and order situation of the state and accused the Chief Minister of politicizing the law enforcement agencies. The CPI-M state secretary Jitendra Choudhury alleged that police didn’t react in a timely manner in any of the incidents when it came from the opposition and the general public. But police have been used for implicating false and fabricated cases against opposition supporters.
“Since March 2018 to June 2021, 662 party offices, 204 offices of left’s frontal organisations, 3363 houses of CPI(M) members and supporters, 659 shops have either been gutted, ransacked or looted and 1500 livelihood options such as fish ponds, rubber trees and so on have been destroyed. The crimes on women are increasing every day in Tripura,” he alleged.
Referring to the latest report of the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) Choudhury said the rate of political violence at 0.5% among one lakh population in Tripura, which is the highest among all northeastern states and most of this political violence, indulged in by the ruling BJP.
According to the report, 22 incidents of political violence in Tripura were registered in NCRB and social violence involving communities was 83, the second-highest in the region. Besides, 114 murders and 79 incidents of rape were reported in Tripura during 2020-21.
