Agartala: After a break of nearly four years, the state’s council of ministers in a meeting last night decided to release three per cent dearness allowance (DA) to 1.90 lakh government employees, pensioners and their family members from next month.
The last DA was released in July 2017 when the then left front government had provided a three per cent allowance.
The Central government has issued 17 per cent DA to its employees, which pressured the BJP-IPFT government in Tripura.
The party had come to power with the promise that all government employees will be given the benefits of 7th Central Pay Commission but so far it managed to bring parity in basic only.
The Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma who also holds the finance portfolio, said Tripura government took a bold step by releasing three percent DA at a time when the entire country is trying to recover from the economic slowdown induced by Covid-19 pandemic.
The three per cent DA will put an additional burden of Rs 320 crore on the state government, he added.
