Agartala: Tripura government has declared the closure of all multiplex, shopping malls, cinema halls, entertainment parks, picnic spots, fairs and exhibitions from Thursday following the continuous surge of Covid19 over a week, said government spokesperson Sushanta Chowdhury.

Talking to media on Wednesday he said the night curfew timings has been extended from 8 PM to 5 AM instead of the existing time of 9 PM till January 31 while attendance in government offices in Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) area was reduced to 50 per cent besides strict implementation of Covid19 protocol.

An upward trajectory of Covid19 infection has been witnessed in the last 10 days recording a total number of over 8000 positive cases with 14 deaths in Tripura, which spurt the positivity rate in the city to 24 per cent. However, no Omicron case has been detected in Tripura so far, he stated.

He expressed concern over the incidences of second and third-time infections even among the vaccine receivers across the state and said that doctors, health workers, police and administrative officials have been infected largely this time.

The people who don’t have travel history or public contact have also been tested corona positive.

The council of ministers in a meeting on Wednesday night reviewed the Covid19 situation in the state and decided to impose more restrictions on public life. The government has also attached importance to child vaccination and a precautionary booster dose of vaccines for 60 years and above age group people.

About 45 per cent of children aged between 15 to 18 years have been administered the first dose of vaccine in two weeks while over 87 per cent of 18 years plus age group people have been given double doses of vaccine in the state so far, Chowdhury added.

Despite being the golden jubilee year of Tripura’s Statehood on Friday, all the celebration of public gatherings has been cancelled owing to the spurt of Covid19.

There will be a symbolic programme at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan on the day with limited people where Union Home Minister Amit Saha is scheduled to take part virtually.
