Agartala: Tripura Pradesh congress committee accorded a rousing welcome to senior politicians and former BJP MLAs – Sudip Roy Barman and Ashis Kumar Saha – on their arrival in the city on Saturday.
They joined Congress in Delhi early this week. A few hundreds motor bikes and a large number of Congress supporters escorted both the leaders along with PCC president Birajit Sinha and AICC in-charge Dr Ajoy Kumar from MBB airport to Congress Bhawan.
Addressing the gathering in front of Congress Bhawan, Roy Barman made a scorching attack on Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and central BJP leaders and said they had to join BJP before 2018 assembly elections to end 25 years old communist rule, as in previous two elections Congress had not able to unseat the left front government.
“The BJP government was established in the state and Biplab Deb became CM because congress supporters have voted for them after we joined the party. We had to join BJP to establish a pro-people, democratic and welfare government in Tripura but Biplab Deb in his four years rule turned all the dreams into a nightmare for the people and we returned to Congress,” Roy Barman stated.
He alleged Tripura has been facing one-man governance, which is worse than two and half decade’s long rule of the left front. The Chief Minister formed a coterie with corrupt and close officers of CPI-M and criminals of the state and has been continuing an onslaught on the people of Tripura and brought third grade elements from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Maharashtra to loot the state.
“MLAs of BJP and even the cabinet ministers have no power to help the people or do anything good rather Biplab Deb openly indulges public servants to insult them and make Tripura poor to poorest. Violence on common people who oppose Biplab, attacks on media and independent bloggers, subjugating cultural and linguistic sentiment and persuading personal vendetta become the agenda of the government, which we can’t tolerate,” Roy Barman mentioned.
“The BJP not only cheated us, they bluffed the people who voted them to power. None of the poll promises have yet been implemented. The profit-making corporations like Tripura State Electricity Corporation, Tripura Industrial Corporation have become dead now and the funds of development projects are being looted by Biplab’s contractors from outside the state. The jobs are being sold to outsiders – we shall not allow them to continue and all the criminals will be in jail,” he warned.
A few office bearers of state BJP and close aides of CM have become crorepati in four years while common people, government employees and businessmen turned poor under Biplab Deb’s regime, alleged Ashis Saha adding, “We shall bring all the corruption and misdeed of this government and leaders in public and make sure they should not come back in 2023. Congress led government will form the government next year.”
