Agartala: The opposition CPI-M and Congress lashed out at Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb Thursday after he came on street demonstrating against Trinamool Congress for perpetrating post result violence on BJP workers in West Bengal.
As part of the nationwide programme, on the second day BJP leaders and supporters demonstrated across the state demanding stopping post-result attacks on their workers in West Bengal. The Chief Minister Deb has also stood on the street at Budhjung Chowmuhani wearing placards along with his party men for a few minutes and criticised Mamata Banerjee for violence.
The CPI-M in a statement alleged Deb and his party have made false statements of peace in Tripura. In two days after the election result of 2018 assembly poll in Tripura as many as 514 party workers were attacked by BJP goons, 1539 houses of CPM supporters were ransacked and looted, 196 house gutted, 134 party offices were destroyed and 64 were set on fire.
The BJP has captured altogether 298 party offices of CPI-M and destroyed another 38 offices of mass organisations of left parties between announcement of election result and formation of the government led by Biplab Kumar Deb in 2018, CPI-M alleged adding no action has been taken any of the cases so far despite lodging specific FIRs.
“The BJP cadres have also destroyed statues of Lenin and several other communist legends in various parts of Tripura with the direct instigation of party leaders. Even after three years of the government, oppositions under Biplab Deb’s rule are not secured. All the elections except for just ended ADC have been rigged by BJP in Tripura and in panchayat election, the ruling party had forced others to withdraw nominations and now they are voicing against West Bengal,” alleged senior CPI-M leader Pabitra Kar.
He maintained that CPI-M didn’t support the violence in West Bengal and the atrocities of Trinamool Congress on the innocent people who had opposed them in the election but this is also not expected from Tripura Chief Minister to come on street against the violence in neighbouring state when opposition supporters in his own state have been persecuted every now and then.
“Several times, CPI-M delegations met Deb seeking assurance of security for the party workers and MLAs but he didn’t do anything rather encouraged the unruly BJP cadres by instigating speeches. As a result, there is no rule of law, police is under the control of BJP leaders, media are not free to write and murder, rape and political violence become a daily routine in Tripura now,” Kar added.
The Congress also came down heavily on Biplab Kumar Deb and alleged under his instruction Youth Congress President of Tripura Pujan Biswas was attacked by BJP goons in Khowai district court where he had gone to plead for one his workers allegedly arrested on a false case. He narrowly escaped the attack and later police rescued him from the courtroom.
“Over 500 citizens were arrested in Tripura in last three years for social media posts against CM and 25 journalists were attacked for writing against BJP and Chief Minister. Today, he is voicing political violence in Bengal, which is shameful. Let him restore democracy and peace in Tripura first then point fingers on others,” said state Congress chief Pijush Kanti Biswas.
