Agartala: Tripura government has procured a 5.37 lakh national flag for household distribution to host the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ program on August 13-15 as part of the celebration of the 75th year of India’s independence, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said here on Tuesday.
Addressing a press conference, Dr. Saha said the state government has targeted to hoist the national tri-color in at least 60 percent of the 8.5 lakh households of Tripura. The government procured the national flag from different SHGs and local entrepreneurs along with a consignment from outside the state, which has been in the process of being sent to distribution outlets.
“The Central government has undertaken the mega celebration of India’s Independence Day this year by involving citizens to hoist national tricolor in each and every house to showcase the patriotism and evoked the Indianness among the common people besides, public offices and business establishment,” Dr. Saha attributed adding that there is a comprehensive initiative to promote nationalism.
He pointed out that although the state government procured the national flag and brought them into the distribution outlets including Ration shops, government offices, panchayat and Ward offices, schools, and colleges, the people have to buy the flags at a nominal cost to develop a sense of ownership to the nation.
The Chief Minister underlined that Tripura ranked 7th in organizing a yearlong program of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav that began in September 2021. Tripura has so far organized 35,013 programs in 372 events in a year. The yearlong celebration was based on five broad themes – freedom struggle, ideas, achievements, activities, and determination.
