Agartala: BJP Tripura state committee today expelled as many as 11 leaders of different wings including two Mandal presidents and several other top party functionaries for six years.
BJP spokesperson Subrata Chakraborty told mediapersons that all of them were engaged in anti-party activities since the announcement of the Autonomous District Council (ADC) elections. All the leaders are from ADC areas of Unokoti, Dhalai and Khowai districts.
“They violated the party decisions, denied the discipline and got involved in anti-party activities. After due enquiry following procedure they are expelled from the party,” Chakraborty said.
According to report, a large section of BJP tribal front (Jan Jati Morcha) activists including some top party leaders and MLAs became unhappy after seat adjustment with IPFT and in most of the seats BJP allowed IPFT to field independent candidates.
As a result, the winning prospect of BJP in ADC poll has become thin and party base in tribal areas destroyed. Earlier, also party lone tribal MP and tribal front chief Rebati Tripura and 10 other tribal MLAs wrote to the BJP chief requesting not to forge alliance with IPFT after they had moved with royal scion Pradyot Kishore’s party.
However, the party top level didn’t agree to the proposal and decided to continue seat sharing with IPFT in ADC, which affected the BJP support base.
