Thoubal: A two-day Capacity-Building Training Programme on“Branding & Packaging for Food and Non-Food Products of Manipur”was successfully organised and conducted by theIndian Institute of Packaging (IIP), Kolkata Centre, in collaboration with theDistrict Industries Centres (DICs), Thoubal and Kakching, for the financial year2026–27 under theRaising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) Project – Phase II, MN 5.3: Brand Manipur, at theYouth Volunteers’ Union (YVU) Conference Hall, Thoubal Khunou, Manipur.
During the inaugural function of the training programme on Branding and Packaging, Dr. Amit Singla, Joint Director and Head, Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP), Kolkata Centre, appreciated the Government’s initiative in organising such training programmes. He stated that these programmes would help promote and strengthen the capabilities of local youth, MSMEs, enterprises, and other stakeholders.
Dr. Amit Singla emphasised thatbranding and packaging are essential components of product marketing. He highlighted that without proper branding and packaging, products may not gain adequate visibility and recognition in domestic and global markets.
He further mentioned that the Government had already conducted Phase I of the programme across 15 districts of Manipur. Approximately 30 participants attended each training session, and around 400 MSMEs have already been trained under the programme.
Dr. Nilay Kanti Pramanik, Deputy Director, Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP), Kolkata Centre, stated that the Government is conducting such programmes to promote local products through proper branding and packaging. He emphasised the importance of adopting effective branding and packaging practices and expressed his hope that the training programme would help participants better understand and implement these practices in their businesses.
Athokpam Brojendro Singh, Food Safety Officer, Food Safety Administration, Thoubal and Kakching Districts, and Oinam Deben Singh, General Manager, District Industries Centre (DIC), Thoubal and Kakching Districts, highlighted the importance of branding, packaging, and proper labelling of products to the participants. They also emphasized the need for proper maintenance of food packaging and the importance of branding for every product produced and consumed in our daily lives. They stressed that health and safety should be the top priorities in the production of various food products.
Jiban Khundrakpam, Branding Consultant, Manipro Branding Solutions, served as the Resource Person for the session. The session was attended by around 30 participants who were duly registered under the Udyam Registration system.
