TMC MLA Shaukat Molla appears before CBI after being summoned

They said the MLA from Canning East of South 24 Parganas was seen entering the CBI office fifteen minutes before he was told to be present at 11 am.

Kolkata: West Bengal ruling TMC MLA Shaukat Molla on Wednesday appeared before the CBI at Nizam Palace in the city after being summoned by the federal investigating agency in relation to a coal smuggling scam, barely a day after Rujira Banerjee, wife of the party’s national general secretary was grilled for about 7 hours in the same case, official sources said.

They said the MLA from Canning East of South 24 Parganas was seen entering the CBI office fifteen minutes before he was told to be present at 11 am.

The CBI has sent the second summons notice to the politician on June 9 for questioning in the case of alleged coal theft from the mines of the Eastern Coalfields Ltd in the state.

The CBI probing the coal scam following a directive from Calcutta High Court on Tuesday questioned Rujira Banerjee at her south Kolkata residence for about seven hours in connection with the alleged coal smuggling scam.

The CBI has filed an FIR in November 2020 against the alleged kingpin of the pilferage racket, Anup Manjhi alias Lala, ECL general managers Amit Kumar Dhar, and Jayesh Chandra Rai, ECL security chief Tanmay Das, Kunustoria area security inspector Dhananjay Rai, and Kajor area security in-charge Debashish Mukherjee.
