Imphal: Accusing the ruling BJP government in Manipur of destroying the beautiful fabric of democracy, Congress president N Loken Singh has appealed to the people of the state to save the state before it is too late.

The veteran leader said that it was the hope and aspiration of the people that Manipur will be a peaceful and developed state if we have a BJP government in the State as there was already a saffron government at the centre. However, if we look at the development and law and order situation in the state over the last four years and ten months, the state is heading towards a dark tunnel with no light at the end of it. That’s why, he said, if we don’t remove this anti-people party and government, Manipur will never see the light, he added.

Speaking to The North East Affairs, N Loken, six-times MLA from Nambol Assembly constituency, also expressed confidence of Congress winning an absolute majority in the upcoming 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election, slated to be held on February 27 and March 3.

Regarding the exodus of party MLAs and senior leaders to BJP and other parties ahead of the Assembly election, the Congress president said that people’s choice and their desire is something which they cannot predict. Yet, if they are joining other parties, it is simply because of love of power and status. Also, it’s no surprise the party ruling at the centre always calls the shot in a small state like Manipur, he added.

The senior leader wondered how a ruling party which claims to win over 40 seats cannot declare a single candidate so far. This shows the breakdown of the party, he contended.

Loken also appealed to the people of the State to make the Congress return to power and preserve the past glory of Manipur.
