Three from Kerala labourers die in K’taka landslide

Mangaluru: Three labourers from Kerala died and one was injured in a landslide in Dakshina Kannada district, according to police.

The injured person is being treated in hospital, Dakshina Kannada SP Rishikesh Sonawane told reporters.

The deceased have been identified as Biju (45) from Palakkad, Santhosh (46) from Alappuzha and Babu (46) from Kottayam, he said, adding that the injured who is recuperating at the hospital is Johny (4) from Kannur.

The landslide occurred late Wednesday evening at Panjikallu village in Bantwal taluk about kilometres from Mangaluru.

During the search operations, three labourers were rescued and taken to the hospital. Out of the three, two died at the hospital due to complications.
The labourers were buried after a landslide mud fell on the shed where they were residing.

Excavators were pressed into service to remove the mud and rescue the trapped labourers after a three-hour operation.
