Thiruvananthapuram: Tension prevailed in Kerala following the attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s office in Wayanad on Friday.
Congress workers clashed with the police at several places including Wayanad, Palakkad, Thiruvananthapuram and Kottayam, sources said.
The SP office march in Wayanad turned violent injuring many people. The Kottayam town turned into a battle field as Congress workers clashed with the police, blocked major roads disrupting traffic.
Opposition leader VD Satheesan, Youth Congress State President Shafi Parambil, many Congress leaders including T Siddique took part in protest marches in various places in the State.
Meanwhile, police tightened security to AKG Centre, the headquarters of CPM in the State. Thousands of police personnel were deployed in sensitive areas to stop any kind untoward incident.
In connection with the attack on Rahul Gandhi’s office, eight SFI activists were taken into custody in Wayanad. About 100 SFI activists took part in the protest march which turned violent leading to the ransacking of the Wayanad MP’s office. The protest march was against the local MP’s silence on the buffer zone issue.
