Agartala: Tension triggered in Ramakrishna Vivekananda Ashram of Madhuban Rani Khamar of Amtali in Agartala following the suicide of an 11-year-old inmate in a toilet on Friday night.

The Ashram authority is accused of torture on the inmates, especially the poor students.

Police said an investigation was launched registering a case of unnatural death and all other allegations and reports were also brought into consideration.

The body of a minor student identified as Joy Das was recovered from the toilet who was a resident of Silchar of South Assam.

The Father of the deceased, Titan Das alleged that two years ago his son was admitted to Ashram’s school and has been staying in the hostel. Because of poverty, they could not afford to pay money all the time and their son used to complain against the Maharaj for torturing him physically.

He alleged that after reaching here they got to know Maharaj and a staff Haripad Malakar abused him all the time and didn’t provide adequate facilities and food to Joy and others economically backward students. They always faced humiliation and torture in front of their mates.

Recently, Joy called up his mother and requested to take her back as he had been facing serious trouble. But the parents didn’t pay much importance and instead advised him to manage the situation.

Police said Joy had gone missing on Friday evening and his hanging body was recovered from the toilet at late night.

Based on the statement, police brought Haripada to the Police station for interrogation and released him thereafter but Maharaj was not even questioned, which sparked a reaction.

Joy had been depressed for a long while because of the daily hard work he had been put to like other inmate students of the ‘Ashram’ and the constant misbehaviour and beating he used to be subjected to by Swami Mrityunjana Maharaj and Haripada Malakar on the slightest pretext.
