Ten fishermen arrested by Myanmar Navy from North Andaman

As per information, these fishermen had gone fishing on 4th April 2021 from Junglighat Jetty in a fishing trawler, namely “Sobha Shree” towards Landfall Island, North Andaman.

Port Blair: In a shocking development, as many as 10 Fishermen of Andaman and Nicobar Islands have been arrested by Myanmar Navy on 10th April 2021 at around 01.00 AM, officials in Andaman confirmed Tuesday.
As per information, these fishermen had gone fishing on 4th April 2021 from Junglighat Jetty in a fishing trawler, namely “Sobha Shree” towards Landfall Island, North Andaman.
As per sources, on 12th April 2021 morning, Andaman Nicobar Command received a message that 10 fishermen from Andaman were arrested by Myanmar Navy and then the information was passed on to the Directorate of Fisheries of Andaman.
When contacted the Director of Fisheries Department, Utpal Kumar Sar said that on 12 April the department got the information from the Indian Navy about the arrest of fishermen from Andaman.
“The message was immediately passed on to senior officers of A & N Administration and the owner of the Trawler, Retik Krishnan has been asked to provide details of all fishermen,” Sar added.
As per sources once the names and other details of all fishermen are obtained by Andaman’s Fisheries Department, The administration will take up this matter with the concerned Ministry for early release of Andaman Fishermen.
The Fisheries Department of Andaman is presently not in a position to share the names of all arrested fishermen. Further details are awaited.
