Kabul: Bearded, gun-toting members of the Taliban militia has taken over the Norwegian embassy in Kabul and smashed wine bottles and destroyed children’s books, the Norwegian Ambassador Sigvald Hauge has said.

Posting a picture of the Taliban militia inside the embassy, the Ambassador tweeted: “Taliban has now taken over the Norwegian Embassy in Kabul. Say they will return it to us later.

“But first wine bottles are to be smashed and children’s books destroyed.

“Guns apparently less dangerous,” he said.

The photo is by Aftenposten, Norway’s largest printed newspaper.

It said that 56 Taliban members have moved into a small piece of Norwegian land in Kabul.

A Twitter post said: “Reports the Taliban have moved into the Norwegian embassy in Kabul, where “the ambassador’s wine collection…must be crushed,” and kids’ DVD and Christmas music CD were destroyed.

“But wooden skis with Kandahar bindings were carefully studied.”

One picture showed the Taliban carefully looking at a wooden ski.

The Taliban during their previous stint in power in Afghanistan destroyed musical instruments as well as cassette tapes. Musicians have been persecuted during Taliban rule.

Since the Taliban’s return to power, Afghan TV and radio stations have changed their programming to play Islamic songs exclusively.
