Hyderabad: With rains lashing various regions of the state leading to increasing water levels of reservoirs, the Telangana state Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister K.T Rama Rao (known as KTR) on Wednesday directed the concerned officials to take up relief and precautionary measures if rains continue to occur during the next few days even as FHMC officials evacuated 1500 people residing near Musi downstream areas.

In a Video conference with the senior officials of GHMC and HMWSSB at his residence Pragathi Bhavan here, KTR, who suffered an injury to his left leg on Saturday last and is currently taking rest as per the advice of doctors, asked the officials to ensure there was no loss of human life.

He also instructed the officials especially to focus on low-lying areas which were prone to more impact due to rains.

He instructed the officials of HMWSSB and Hyderabad’s neighboring Urban bodies to execute works for controlling the flood impact or prevention of water logging within respective limits.

The GHMC and HMWSSB command control centers should be used effectively, he said.

The capacity of water bodies, inflows, and outflows should be closely monitored in coordination with the irrigation department, the Minister also instructed the officials.

On Twitter during the day, GHMC Mayor G. Vijaya Laxmi said that the GHMC officials in coordination with the revenue department, have evacuated 1500 residents residing near the Musi downstream flowing area and shifted them to shelter homes due to the increased flow of flood water.

All necessary arrangements have been made at the shelter homes for the citizens, the Mayor added.
