Sumang Kumhei plays important role in shaping public opinion: N Biren

Imphal: Chief Minister N. Biren Singh Sunday said that Sumang Kumhei plays an important role in shaping public opinion and acts as a tool for creating mass awareness campaigns at the grassroots. 

This was stated by him at the premiere show of Sumang Kumhei “Keidoubagi Kidoino ”, a COVID-19 awareness media advocacy campaign held at Iboyaima Sumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Compound, Imphal East. 

The play is produced by the Directorate of Information & Public Relations (DIPR), Manipur under the initiative of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh. The Sumang Kumhei was streamed live at the DIPR Facebook page and DIPR Youtube channel and other local TV channels. 

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister mentioned that his government believed that such plays would sensitize masses about the COVID-19 disease and the importance of COVID-19 vaccination. Considering the current situation of COVID-19, the government has taken up various stringent measures to contain the disease, he added.

The Chief Minister stressed that free meals are being provided to all the patients who are undergoing treatment at Covid Care Centres and hospitals. Door-to-door COVID-19 testing and mass vaccination drive have started in various parts of the State, he added. He appealed to the people to support the government in the fight against COVID-19.

N. Biren Singh lauded DIPR, Manipur and those who are associated with the play for producing the play within a short period.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Information & Public Relations, Th. Biswajit Singh said that the pandemic has adversely affected socially and economically in every society. Since the beginning of the pandemic, the government is trying its best to protect and save precious lives, he added. The Minister highlighted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government has started World’s largest free COVID vaccination drive for its citizens.

Stating that COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective at preventing the dreaded disease, Th. Biswajit said that one should not be reluctant to take the jab as vaccines are being developed through a rigorous process and clinical trials and later approved by competent authorities for public use. The Minister mentioned that the government cannot alone fight the pandemic without the support and cooperation of the people.

Minister for Education S. Rajen Singh, Minister for Agriculture O. Lukhoi Singh, MP Rajya Sabha Leishemba Sanajaoba, Chairman LDA L. Susindro Meitei, Commissioner (IPR) M. Joy Singh, Director (IPR) H. Balkrisna, Former Minister M. Nara, Padmashri Naba Wareppa and others witnessed the premier show among others.
